ABOHNS Announces New Exam Blueprint

During the 2025 SUO/AADO/OPDO Meeting, the American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) announced completion of the new exam blueprint for the Written Exam and Otolaryngology Training Exam (OTE). For the Written Exam, this blueprint will be implemented in 2026. For the OTE, this blueprint will be implemented in 2027.
Highlights of changes:
- Changes in weights of Practice Areas
- Consolidation of Management from three categories into two:
- Previous: Non-Surgical, Surgical Concepts, Surgical Procedures
- New: Non-Surgical, Surgical
- Introduction of Subdomains for each Practice Area
All task statements used for the 2025 ABOHNS Practice Analysis are available on our website. An infographic showing an overview of the practice analysis process is also available.
To access the new exam blueprint, a summary of changes to the blueprint, task statements and infographic, log in to your Physician Portal and scroll down to the “Inside ABOHNS” tile, then select the “Practice Analysis” tile. The new exam blueprint and summary of changes can also be accessed by selecting the Written Exam tile. The OTE tile will be updated to the new exam blueprint after the 2026 exam.
